What Kids Produce in You
Mari Smith posted this today. “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. – Mahatma Gandhi
I’m posting this because that statement applies to parenting as well. When you’re present with your children you’re given the gift of self-realization. Being in the now (which is where kids live) and being available to fulfill their needs can produce feelings inside of you.
Of course you love them, and love being with them, however there are other feelings that may surface as well. You may feel overwhelmed, frustrated, resentful, unfulfilled, etc.
When those feelings surface it’s showing you a hidden part of yourself, a part that’s been activated by being of service to your kids.
You’re not alone here. This is the stuff no one talks about. Finding this aspect of yourself is usually a surprise to most parents. You’re seeing what’s called the shadow side of yourself so you can explore and deal with it.
